Dining Chair Cushions

March 10th, 2010  |  Published in Uncategorized

Hard wooden kitchen and dining room chairs beg to be softened with chair cushions, but choosing dining chair cushions that don’t overwhelm your kitchen set isn’t easy. You can pick up a set of chair cushions for $5 at the local dollar store - but will they fit into your room’s decor - or detract from your style? Cheap chair pads are filled with thin, durable fabric and poor quality work.

If you take the trouble to choose well-made, quality decorative chair cushions for your kitchen or dining room set, you’ll be rewarded with a set that lasts longer, is far more comfortable and requires less care in the long run. You must take these things into account when choosing chair cushions for wooden chairs. It’s important to choose the correct size for the seat, because a too-small cushion will cause discomfort. It will look builky if it is too large. The wear on the fabric from the edges of the chair seat and will cut the life of your cushions.

Be certain that if there are ties or straps they are sewn into the cushion’s seam. The ties or straps on a chair cushion get pulled and tugged frequently from everyday use. Ties or straps that are sewn into a seam are much more likely to remain attached.

To make it easy to keep them clean, buy window seat cushions treated with stain guard. If you find the perfect cushions and they’re not stain resistant, invest in a can of stain resist or stain guard to make it easier to keep them looking fresh and new. Your kids eat here in the kitchen, I am assuming. When choosing chair cushions, look for either washable ones or ones with removable, washable covers. Despite having stain guard protection, occasional spills will be absorbed. Being able to toss your chair cushions into the washer will make your life easier. Choose cushions in a sturdy fabric that can withstand lots of wear and tear.

Good choices for fabric that wears like iron are corduroy, denim, chintz, canvas and duck. Check rolled edges, piping and ruffles closely to be sure they are all straight and firmly sewn into the seam between the top and the bottom of the cushion. Check carefully for any seam and the gap between the rest and give some of the ruffle tug of the pipeline to ensure that it will not easily free of charge. Tufted cushions are pretty - but they can be uncomfortable if you sit on them for long periods of time. Make sure, when choosing tufted cushions, make sure the buttons are sewn through all the layers of the chair cushion to avoid losing buttons to wriggling bottoms.
